Marine debris (trash) is a worldwide problem; an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash are dumped in the ocean yearly. Since many forms of debris are not biodegradable, they can cause problems for years to come. As many as 100,000 Marine animals and two million sea birds die each year from eating or ingesting marine debris.

GET REAL Involved! will head to a Tampa Bay coastal area to perform a "Clean Up." We will scour for marine debris and trash after the July 4th holiday.  We will spend about four hours performing clean up.

We will be working on Picnic Island in Hillsborough County.  Following the clean up at the beach, our host church, Hyde Park United Methodist will be bringing students to the beach for an afternoon of Fun in the Sun! 

Wear your "GET REAL Involved!" t-shirt, bring sunscreen, bug spray, work clothes, gloves & hats and CLOSED TOED SHOES. And of course a smile and a positive attitude. 

If you are joining the group for the beach outing be sure to "buy" a ticket for that as well.  On Saturday, bring your bathing suit, a towel, $10 for lunch on the way and any other items you want to enjoy at the beach.  There will be a van returning to the church for those who cannot participate in the afternoon fun.

Buy a "ticket" to register for this event. Only 30 spaces are available for both the clean up and the beach outing.
